Church of St John the Baptist
The Church of St John the Baptist is one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture in Moravia.
It was built on the site of a commandery of the Order of Malta, which is still recalled by the Maltese crosses on its twin towers. The design was based on the ground plan of the Salesian Sisters' church on Renngasse in Vienna, and the façade draws on models of Viennese and Prague churches.
The church is part of the historic town centre of Kroměříž, a protected urban heritage reserve.
